China Hydropower (Malaysia), a subsidiary of China Power Construction Corporation, signed a 1.883 billion ringgit (approximately 3.5 billion yuan) agreement with Semarak Renewable Energy involving a green hydrogen project in Perak.

The project produces and stores green hydrogen through floating photovoltaic power generation, which is in line with the concept of “ecological priority, green development” and focuses on the use of abandoned tin mine lakes for secondary development, contributing to Malaysia’s green and low-carbon transformation. This will be Malaysia’s first large-scale floating photovoltaic green hydrogen production project.

The deputy general manager of PowerChina’s Asia-Pacific headquarters said that planning and construction will be accelerated to help Semarak become a pioneer in the country’s green hydrogen energy industry. Since PowerChina entered the Malaysian market in 1993, it has undertaken more than 150 projects with a total contract value of more than US$7 billion (RM33.02 billion).
