Malaysia’s aviation industry surges with 9.1% increase in operating airlines

As of the end of 2023, the recovery of the Malaysian aviation industry is progressing steadily, with 72 airlines operating in the Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) network, an increase of 9.1% from the previous year. Connects to 147 destinations, including 113 international and 34 domestic.

International passengers reached 4 million in December 2023, the highest level since February 2020. The total passenger volume exceeded 100 million for the first time, reaching 120 million passengers, achieving an important milestone and showing an 84.6% recovery. The local airport made a significant contribution, with passenger traffic reaching a record high of 81.9 million, an increase of 77.8% compared to 2019.

In December 2023, Malaysian airport passenger traffic reached 7.7 million passengers, with international customers increasing by 18% and domestic customers increasing by 16%. The total number of passengers at Istanbul SAW Airport in December 2023 was 3.1 million, a record high, an increase of 4.5%, and the proportion of international traffic exceeded 50% for the first time.
